AU Songkran Festival 2019 (Thai Traditional New Year Celebration)

The AU beautiful Thai traditional New Year Songkran Festival 2019, organized by Office of the Thai Art and Culture, Student Affairs, on April 9-10, 2019 at the Suvarnabhumi Campus, was colorfully celebrated in accordance with original Thai unique and authentic customs. Main activities included the sprinkling of scented holy water on the enshrined Buddha Image for blessings and good fortune and alms giving & food offering to the monks (merit making).  The Thai cultural dances, shows and music were performed; enhancing the celebrative, cultural and vibrant atmosphere. Exhibitions depicting the history of Songkran and Songkran Goddess were set up in the plaza area for all to gain related valuable information. Both Thai and foreign students clad in various modern Thai flower-patterned attire including faculty members and staff dressed in elegant Thai traditional costumes enthusiastically joined the festive event contesting for the best costume awards as well as the Miss Songkran beauty contest. Furthermore, administrators, faculty members, staff, students and their invited family members took part in the respect paying ceremony to the senior university executives including Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President-Rector Magnificus. The main event took place at the Thai Pavilion accompanied by Thai traditional music performed by the AU Classical Performing Arts Club. The joyful celebration ended with a cocktail reception.
