AU Faculty Members Properly Trained on Effective Teaching Methods, Skills and Activities.

The Training on “Teaching Pedagogy” for Academic Year 2020 was organized by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs in cooperation with Graduate School of Human Science on November 10, 2020 at Hua Mak Campus.

As the effective specialized, highly skilled teaching methods and activities are of vital significance for all AU faculty members for students’ learning and acquisition of knowledge, the systematic training on teaching pedagogy was aimed towards the continual development and updating of the AU faculty members’ teaching abilities.


A series of training program especially for both current instructors with at least 1-2 years’ teaching duties, and the newly recruited faculty members was spearheaded towards enhancing their understanding on the teaching and learning pedagogy to effectuate effectiveness in teaching and learning activities.
This is to further create the conductive learning environment that would attract students’ attention, hold their interest throughout the teaching and learning activities and embed in them the desire to acquire knowledge and skills.

Such efforts, can consequently enhance their understanding on the subject matters as well as their abilities to apply the theoretical aspects in their real life settings.

Presiding over the training, Dr. Vindhai Coracul, Vice President for Academic Affairs, addressed all the participants reiterating on the major objectives and significance of the training on teaching pedagogy in preparation for all participating faculty members’ to gain the imparted teaching theories, knowledge and skills.

Sharing of Teaching Experiences by AU Senior Lecturers

To further enhance the participating faculty members’ understanding on the essential training topic of teaching and learning methods and effective strategies, the following Senior AU Lectures shared about their long-year teaching experiences :

Lecture on Strategies for Teaching and Developing Skills by Asst. Prof. Dr. Richard Lynch

Asst. Prof. Dr. Richard Lynch, Graduate School of Human Sciences, presented a lecture on “ Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Domains and their Applications in Teaching and Learning & Test and Measurement, highlighting on the following main points:

• Thoughts on teaching, learning & testing
• Instructional Alignment
• What are Bloom’s Taxonomies of Educational Objectives?
• FOCUS – Bloom’s Taxonomy of the Cognitive Domain
• Using Bloom’s Taxonomy to write learning objectives.
• Tests, Measurement and Evaluation

Learning Outcomes
• As a result of the session, participant were able to:

– Describe Bloom’s 3 Taxonomies of Educational Objectives
– Classify learning objectives from the cognitive taxonomy
– Describe ways to use Bloom’s Taxonomies to improve learning
– Write measurable learning objectives for your classes
– Understand the concepts – Assessments/Tests, Measurement and Evaluation

Lecture by Asst. Prof. Dr. Orlando Gonzalez, Graduate School of Human Sciences

The "Training on Teaching Pedagogy" series for the Academic Year 2020 continued on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020. Asst. Prof. Dr. Orlando Gonzalez, faculty of the Graduate School of Human Sciences, gave two workshop presentations on the design and instructional use of the Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF: HEd).

The first workshop presentation, titled “The Use of TQF 3 for Class Preparation, Teaching and Learning”, took place from 13:00-14:30 hrs. The presentation was structured in four parts: (1) TQF 3: What is It?; (2) The Relation Between TQF 3 and TQF 2; (3) How to Develop your TQF 3 for Class Preparation, Teaching and Learning; and (4) Hands-on Activity: Understanding my TQF 3.

The main objectives of this presentation were to enable participants to able to understand what the Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF: HEd) are; understand what the TQF 3 is and how it is structured; align the objectives of the course they teach with the AU Identities and Desired Outcomes of Education (DOE); and appropriately prepare the TQF 3 for the courses they teach.

The second presentation, titled "The Use of TQF 5 to Improve Teaching and Learning", was held from 14:45-15:30 hrs. The presentation was structured in four parts: (1) TQF 5: What is It?; (2) The Relation Between TQF 5 and TQF 3; (3) How to Develop your TQF 5 to Improve Teaching and Learning; and (4) Q & A Session.

The main objectives of this presentation were to enable participants to able to understand what the TQF 5 is and how it is structured; apply what we learned about TQF 3 to develop their own TQF 5; analyze and evaluate the information from their TQF 3 to guide develop their own TQF 5 and improve teaching and learning; and appropriately prepare the TQF 5 for the courses they teach.

The presentations, which were free and open to the Assumption University teaching community (particularly to faculty members who joined Assumption University for the Semester 2/2020), were held in the Seminar Room, 1F, D-Building, Assumption University, Hua Mak Campus.
